Pokuttia
Pokuttia is a historical and cultural region of the Carpathian Mountains, located between the Prut and Dniester rivers. Kolomyia is considered its heart, and Pokuttya also includes Horodenka, Snyatyn, Otynia, and dozens of ancient villages with unique architecture and traditions.
The name "Pokuttya" has several explanations. The most common is from the expression "in the corner", that is, "on the corner of the land" between the rivers. Mentions of the region date back to the times of Kyivan Rus, and Pokuttya experienced its greatest prosperity in the 16th–18th centuries, when magnificent churches, cathedrals, and castles were built here.
Pokuttya is also a special culture:
- bright traditional clothing and embroidery,
- ancient crafts and industries,
- a dialect that combines elements of Hutsul and Podolia dialects,
- unique customs and rituals.
Today, Pokuttya attracts travelers with a combination of history, sacred architecture and living traditions. Here you can see Baroque and Rococo masterpieces, visit museums, feel the atmosphere of ancient cities, and join modern festivals and cultural events.
Pokuttya is more than geography. It is a spirit and heritage that unites people from ancient times to the present day.
